Harmonise your hands...

Making your grip work as a solid unit leads to better putting

The grip most professionals use for putting is completely different to the one they use with other clubs. The putter is permitted to have a grip with a flat front, making it much easier to keep the blade square during the stroke. The key to a sound putting grip is to make your hands work as a unit. It makes your stroke much more solid and repeatable.

Your left palm should run straight down the inside of the grip, with the back of your hand facing directly towards the target.

Put your thumb straight down the middle of the grip. Keep your forefinger away from the shaft for the moment.

Now for the right hand. The back of the hand should face directly backwards and the thumb, like on the left hand, should be placed running down the middle of the club.

Now you can overlap the back of your right hand with your left forefinger. Note how close my hands are together and how they can now work together as a unit.

5 Just look at the results! As the ball drops into the hole, my one-piece grip remains in place, the face is held square and my head has not moved.

Sarah's Secrets

A good putting grip results in your palms being directly opposite each other. That means neither hand can dominate and the putter head can remain on-line before, during and after contact with the ball.
